Exploding Sky at Barnegat InletCanon EOS 5D, 30 mm, 1/100 sec, f 11, 50 This weekend I took my first of three summer vacations. I spent a few days in Ship Bottom, NJ (on Long Beach Island) with my brothers and our girlfriends/spouses. I had intended to wake up on Saturday morning to drive down to Barnegat Lighthouse and photograph the sunrise, but I had set my alarm incorrectly the night before and slept right through it. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because if I HAD gotten up on Saturday morning, I would not have made the trip again Sunday morning and I would have missed this incredible sight. Genevieve, Brendan, Christine and I showed up at the lighthouse around 5:30 AM and right away it seemed as if it was going to be a throw away sunrise - too many clouds, very foggy, very humid. There actually was no literal sunrise, and we didn't even see the sun until about 20 minutes after it was supposed to have risen. Shortly before we were going to leave, all of the clouds which I thought were ruining our shot at good photos starting shooting out these beautiful rays of sunlight. Later this week I will have a better view of this sky, sans lighthouse, to post. 17 Comments
