Sunrise at the Pier

Canon EOS 5D, 70 mm, 1/40 sec, f 11, 100

It's been many month's since I shot a sunrise on the beach, but this morning Genevieve and I got up around 3:30 and headed down to Ocean Grove to watch the sunrise at the Ocean Grove Pier. I was determined to get good photos at this location today because several months ago we visited this pier at night to do some long exposures, but it was a rainy night and I didn't come away with anything usable. While the sunrise this morning was nothing spectacular because of the cloudy weather, I did come away with several photographs that I'm happy with. This image shows the sun, several minutes after emerging from the clouds, hanging between two of the piers wooden pylons.

  • M » This is lovely. Perfection!!! You should photoshop a dolphin jumping in front of the sun!! :-)
  • Laurie » There is nothing more rejuvenating to me than a sunrise over the ocean. This is a wonderful spot to capture that feeling and you did it perfectly. Timing for the receding wave to reveal the reflections on the wet sand is perfect. I love the use of the pier.
  • Alejandra » What a beautiful shot Justin! Very nice composition, colors and reflections. Love it!
  • John Zeweniuk » This is nicely realized all the little coloured spaces in the upper frame are neat
  • kazik » Nice composition with sunrise. I like it.
