This is probably one of my favorite photos that I've taken at "The Point" in Stone Harbor, an area which has been featured on my site many times (see 1,2,3,4,5). The Point is a protected, 200+ acre area on the southern tip of Stone Harbor which plays host to hundreds of species of birds (some of which are endangered), rare plant life, and even the occasional sea turtle. It should come as no surprise to any of my NJ visitors that undeveloped shoreline in New Jersey is quite a rarity, and the amount of it left is now under 14%. I recently learned that the town has plans to build two new wildlife/bird observation decks on the outskirts of The Point to allow visitors enjoy the sight of animals and nature which they won't find anywhere else.

  • Mrs. Faust » "the point" has changed drastically over the years. I remember when "the point" used to be a very special place to share long, long walks with my dad. I wish I could share that "point" with the family, but time marches on. I have mixed feelings about observation decks. There is already a bird sanctuary and the wetlands to observe birds and such. I'd like to see the point kept as natural as possible. I guess I am selfish, The Point is still a special place for me and I want to keep it that way.
  • Gen » Can't wait for Stone Harbor!
  • Allison » I like the soft colors in the sky... looks like a watercolor. And then the sign gives a great contrast.
